More About Me
I grew up in a Caribbean immigrant household where I learned how to plant seeds according to the lunar cycle. In my family, survival came before self-expression. Creativity was seen as a luxury rather than a livelihood, and success was often measured through stability. Yet art kept returning to me like a tide that refused to recede.
As a Miami-born interdisciplinary artist and curator, my work is rooted in the stories, rituals, and cultural knowledge passed down through generations of Caribbean women. Through ceramics, installation, film, performance, and painting, I explore Black identity, Afro-Caribbean memory, migration, spirituality, and the ways history lives within the body. I am interested in what remains after displacement, what survives through ritual, food, language, and collective memory.
Many of my works incorporate organic materials such as fruit, herbs, spices, and flowers sourced from my family’s homeland of Trinidad and Tobago. These materials are fermented, transformed, and returned to the earth, mirroring the cycles of loss, adaptation, and renewal that shape diasporic experience. My practice asks questions about cultural preservation, belonging, surveillance, and the lingering effects of colonialism on Black communities.
Alongside my studio practice, I work in curatorial research, exhibition making, and public programming. My experiences with organizations such as the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, Pérez Art Museum Miami, Southern Exposure, and Lyric have shaped my belief that art institutions can be places of care, resistance, and community building when guided by equity and accountability.
Whether creating an installation, organizing an exhibition, or facilitating a public program, I am motivated by the same conviction: Caribbean stories, immigrant histories, and Black futures deserve preservation, interpretation, and celebration. My goal is to build spaces where these narratives can flourish and where artists from historically marginalized communities can imagine new possibilities together.
